Loran Scholarship Introduction
Loran Scholarship Foundation seeks out and nurtures promising young Canadians who demonstrate strong character, commitment to community service, and leadership potential. The Loran scholarship provides more than financial support – it opens doors to mentorship, enriching summer work opportunities, and a network of like-minded peers that lasts a lifetime.
Judging Character and Potential
The Loran scholarship selection commitee focuses less on grades and more on intangibles – a drive to lead and serve, communication skills, resilience in the face of challenges.
Shortlisted candidates participate in regional interviews and group exercises judged by volunteer community leaders. The top 36 candidates then attend three days of national interviews and events in Toronto.
Finalists who are not selected as Loran Scholars may still receive a $5,000 Finalist Award or Provincial Award up to $2,000.
The Benefits of Becoming a Loran Scholar
The Loran scholarship provides more than $100,000 over four years of undergraduate study, with $10,000 available for summer internships. Yet it’s about more than money.
Opening Doors Through Mentorship
Each Loran Scholar is matched with three mentors who provide career guidance and networking opportunities. Mentors include CEOs, entrepreneurs, judges, artists, and community builders.
Bringing Scholars Together
A summer retreat in Ontario allows new Loran Scholars to meet and bond before beginning their studies. There are also annual gatherings and access to exclusive speaker events.
