Q.In other words, the Student Loan Trust Fund is there to help students who need financial aid.
In accordance with Articles 25 and 38 of the 1992 Constitution, the Students Loan Trust Fund was created as a public entity to administer student loans and to promote and facilitate the national goals expressed in those articles. In its stead will be the SSNIT Students Loan Scheme. In 2011, Act 820 was passed by Parliament to establish the Student Loan Trust Fund.

Q.Hi, my name is (insert name), and I am a college student. May I inquire as to whether or not I meet the criteria for a Loan?
To be eligible for a Loan, you must:
- Firstly, you are a Ghanaian.
- You have been accepted to a reputable university in Ghana to pursue a recognised degree.
You are in the third year of a postsecondary certificate or degree programme.
Q.My schedule only allows for weekend or sandwich classes. To what extent do you offer loans?
Weekend and evening students can apply for the loan.
Unfortunately, per the SLTF’s current policy, sandwich programmes students can’t apply for the loan.
Q.May I get by without a guarantor, and if so, who can stand in their stead?
YES. A guarantor is someone who supports your loan and makes it easier for the Trust Fund to locate you when repayment is due.
If you cannot be located to repay the debt, the guarantor will be responsible for doing so.
Loan guarantors might be chosen from the following categories (SSNIT Contributor, Recognized Religious Body, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly or a Corporate Body).

b. Have a ten-year history of operation, as verified by a Registrar General’s Department registration certificate.
c. Documentation of the school’s intent to guarantee loans is required (Resolution)
Local Government Bodies
Assembly Resolution showing support for loan guarantees for students is required.
b)Two signatories with authority to ratify the resolution shall be named.
Organized Groups
a Current membership in the Ghana Club 100 or listing on the Ghana Stock Exchange are prerequisites for consideration.
It is required that a guarantee be authorized by a resolution of the board of directors.
c. At least two (2) Senior Management-level signatories are necessary.
Q.If I make payments into the SSNIT Pension Scheme, do I still need a guarantor?
Yes. An employer does not waive the requirement for a guarantor for a student worker who pays into SSNIT. You can’t guarantee for one self because guaranteeing involves a relationship with a third party.
Q.Is it possible for two applicants who have both paid into the SSNIT system to guarantee for each other?
That’s not going to work. Furthermore, no cross guarantees will be accepted.
Q.I need a loan from SLTF; tell me how to apply.
The SLTF loan can be obtained by submitting an application. Here are the quick and simple steps to applying:
One, go to the SLTF website (which can be found at www.sltf.gov.gh)
The second step is to apply for a loan by clicking the website’s link (You may save and continue with the application later if you do not complete at one sitting).
Third, fill out an online form by following the standard fill-in instructions.
(Post an image of your passport photo online)
Fourth, have a copy of your loan application summary pages printed.
Step 5: Fill out a Guarantor Deed and a Student Loan Application.
Commitment Is Made (Complete all forms in BLACK INK and BLOCK LETTERS only)
Sixth, you and your guarantor need to have your fingerprints (index and thumb) taken.
Thumbprints can be obtained at any SSNIT office. A representative from SSNIT will help you out. (Only SSNIT guarantors are required to provide a thumbprint.)
Step 7 Please include copies of the following documents.
Admission letter and student ID.
ii. The SSNIT ID or reference number.
E-zwich Card, Part III (both sides).
Step 8 Send two signed, original copies of the form and one copy of each supporting document to the SLTF Campus Office at your institution.

At the start of each school year, we accept applications online. Information specific to your situation would be relayed to you via your school office.
Q.New SLTF Payment Methods and Platforms in 2018?
Payments on Student Loans can be made using any of the following methods, provided that your Social Security Number (SSN) is included:
MOBILE MONEY: call the short code *737*206# and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete your transaction.
Pay using your Visa, MasterCard, or Mobile Money by going to www.myghpay.com or downloading the myghpay app from the Google Play Store and then following the on-screen directions to register and log in and then clicking on the SLTF logo.
Third, GT COLLECT allows you to pay using a specialised pay-in slip at ANY GT Bank location in the country.
Q.How To Notification Procedure for NIB Student Loan Repayments
The Trust Fund regrets to remind our valued customers, in particular those who have repaid their loans at any National Investment Bank (NIB) office since July 14, 2014, that we are currently unable to update your Students Loan Statement owing to technical difficulties.

The Students’ Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has created the Students’ Loan Protection Scheme (SLPS) to alleviate the stress placed on borrowers’ guarantors and loved ones in the event of a loan default due to the borrower’s untimely death or permanent disability.
Q.What is the cost of security?
Paying into the Student Loan Guarantee Scheme at the rate of 0.5% of your loan is mandatory. This payment would be made by a withholding amount applied to each payment.
Q.When it comes to my safety, why should I spend money on guards?
In the event of the guarantor’s death or permanent incapacity, this will relieve them of any responsibility.
